For unlocking a research, you generally have to perform a challenge, maybe as a particular faction, maybe as any faction. For example, S105 (Increases mana regen based on your RP totals) requires that you have a total of 600 RP among all 6 research trees. This one would technically be easier in later Rs, but isn't that difficult in general.The low level vanilla stuff is a slight grind. The game really opens up once you get to the merc faction and beyond. Elfs>Demons>fairies>goblins>angels>undead = vanilla factions. Titans>faceless>druids = nuetrals. At this point, progress using Mercenary builds will start to slow down. The fastest choice is still Lightning Forge, requiring constant activity. A bit slower, but can almost entirely be idled, are the Innkeeper and Diamond Forge builds. Even longer, but solid, is the IGOT build which can go from 1 Uvg (1 E 66) to 1 Tvg (1 E 72) in one run.
