I should mention that I have no experience with this motor, and inherited the 1/2 finished project as a pile of unlabeled, disorganized boxes.I made a custom adapter plate to mate the OM617 to the r150f Toyota transmission. I re drilled the Toyota flywheel to fit the Mercedes crankshaft as well as machined a custom pilot bearing adapter. I just finished the engine build and am working on hooking everything back up. I’m shooting to have it done by the end of the month.

This motor made the Mercedes seem like a much smaller motor, what I thought was a fairly sweet motor now was under powered and got considerably les mpg. OM617s are not known for extreamly good MPG. Even in the auto 300D cars they typically get around 30 mpg in real world driving with a weight of around 3600lbs. My fear would be the Colorado is probaly close to 4600lbs and the gearing will have you way out side of the OM617 operating range.jbrasile. While the 603 is a much more civilized and powerful engine (148hp in the 300D Turbo and SDL) it does not come even close to the 617 as far as durability and reliability. The goal is to build a very fuel efficient diesel little pickup. So after I seized up the 2nd om617 in that truck I decided to go with an om616. Truck was getting 30.7 mpg average between city and highway with the om 617 and a 4 speed. The new build is getting a 5 speed Toyota trans and an om616.
