I eliminated linkage as the problem by disconnecting it, and manually selecting each gear to the detent position. Low and reverse hold fine. Major problems with my 550 S4. I only have 44 hours on my new 550 S4 and the transmission and the clutch both have had to be replaced!!! I have only had the gator since Oct.31 it's been in the shop for over a month of that time, over three weeks just for the transmission! Because there was no rush on fixing something under warranty!

Also when shifting from 4WD to 2WD it hesitates but after few yards it comes out with a load clunk. I have about 20 hours on it.

There is still parts at jd sounds like a bearing failed. I have a similar problem on a Turf gator - when I split the transmission case, there was a bearing completely destroyed and as a result the idler gear is destroyed.
