The person hosting dictates the tether distance so if a person on a ps5/series x hosts, the distance will be bigger than if a ps4/xbox one hosts.
You can increase further then the slider allows by entering a number instead. Water and caves mess with the tether distance. If any of you have a halfway decent computer I would recommend running a dedicated server in the background on one of your computers. Or on a seperate computer if one of you have a spare.
