Status quo vassalization doesn't require claims either, just occupation. Their planets aren't valuable to you. You don't want to manage more planets. You want an AI to do work for you. I haven't tried but I assume that you can become integrated the same way the AI can, so for that reason I would never accept vassalization unless it's a matter of survival. And if it comes to that you should immediately start preparations for a war of independence by maxing your navy cap and looking for strong friends.
