This weekend I worked on his old Golden. It failed to eject and the action was very stiff. The firing pin will stick out the rear of the bolt for the hammer to hit if there is a round in the chamber to push the pin back. It has nothing to do with the rifle being pointed down unless the end of the firing pin is broken off so the cartridge can't push it back. I have 18 39A Marlin's and there is not any of mine that won't fire pointed down.
