I just got my '89 YJ if the mechanical fuel pump compensates for too much pressure downstream. He also broke the fuel fill vent, so I'm replacing the tank, and thus all fuel lines - will restore it to normal config with fuel supply and return lines and vent line to cannister unless someone knows that a return line is not really needed.

There are 2 short hoses that are on the driver side engine, one goes from the metal fuel line to the filter and the other line goes to the mech fuel pump on the passenger side.You can replace them with bulk FI hose and good hose clamps. Really, you're just looking for the rubber ends as vacuum tubing is readily available and fairly easily shaped with a few burns to your hands and a decent heat gun.
The fuel return (is 5/16" hose) and the vent / rollover is 1/4" hose. Note that the TJ's don't have a return fuel since the fuel rail regulates the pressure. In our YJ's, excess fuel is piped back into the tank. This is another reason why it is good to have more pickups so return fuel isn't splashing the RCI pickup pipe. More on the pickups ...

If you test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a pressure tester it should read about 32 psi with the vacuum hoses all attatched, if it does indeed read ...
