Solo melee wouldn't work with anyone - even Fane. You gotta have other bodies sometimes, so it's either summoner or necro, and necro is best, and elves are best for necro. You could be a Fane necro, but you'd be stuck with wearing his crappy helmet if you wanted to be elf Fane in combat. True for mere mortals.
