I'm working on a 1953 vintage Remington Sportsman 48, 12 gauge that fires, but does not cycle. The barrel does retract into the receiver, but the bolt appears to reach a high-friction point about two-thirds of the way through its travel. I've cleaned and lightly lubed the recoil spring and friction rings.I have 2 11-48s and a Mohawk 48. The barrels will interchange because they are the same. The 11-48 was the first of the 48s and was a 5 shot. The "Sportsman" 48 had a 2 round mag tube making it a 3 shot. The "Mohawk" 48 was made in the early 70s and he final run of the 48s, it was a 5 shot. Keep the FaithWhat I was referring to was my Sportsman 48 has the same friction ring but also a couple of additional rings, one of which you can reverse depending on the load. The Model 11 schematic shows very similar rings. My 11-48 doesn't have those two additional rings, only the friction ring. The Sportsman 48 has 3 rings.
