I tested Kimber’s Ultra Carry II in 45 ACP. This is a short grip, aluminum framed 1911 style gun, with a 3” bull barrel. At 25 oz, it is a good gun for EDC.Sort of a snub-nose 1911. The rest of the Kimber Ultra line has the 3" barrel, but with the 'Officer' grip, reduced by one round (and about 1/2" of butt length) and is factory spec'd at 6+1. But most who carry an Ultra use 7-round mags for 7+1. The SCU+ is a discontinued Kimber model, now highly sought after by some.It's an Ultra with a captured double spring set-up. I wouldn't switch the springs cause it's a PITA. If it does it with the Kimber mags (don't slam them into the gun when they are empty) then the next thing I would do is find a shooter who shoots short 1911's and let them shoot the gun.
