I used the bottle the oil came in and slowly added the oil a pump or two at a time after I knew I had over 3 oz in the final. I filled it until the oil strarted to flow over the threads.I recently did my own first oil change. After reading the manual I purchased four quarts of oil. The manual says that the capacity of the case is 3.9 quarts. I drained from both the front and back quarts. After all was done, I seem to be coming up short. When checking the oil as described, the level does not even touch the dip stick.

I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive. I looked at the service manual, and all it shows is change the final drive oil every 24,000 miles. The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilator) hose is attached to the intake to burn the fumes vented by the engine. Oil comes along with the fumes. If you have the stock air box, there should be a clear tube under the air box to catch some of the oil. Drain the tube and wipe out the throttle with a dry cloth. It can get stuck pretty easily so you want to be sure you use a box end wrench or you'll likely round the corners and then really have a problem.
