Magus build pathfinder.
Magus really is a class that needs some deciation, since its features are spread out. Cantrips are endless, but don't level up (except you can add sneak attack, don't know whether sneak attack is added both to weapon attack and spell). Spell combat is pretty useless without a decent amount of spells to burn.

I'm using a GM-approved variant of Tiefling that has a +2 STR/INT, -2 CHA. We're playing 20-point buy. If there's any way to make it work, I'd like to fit in Craft Magic Arms and Armor and any other crafting feats that might be useful as they fit in with the character's story well.This is my build, I'm playing as a tank magus right now! I'm using Bastion free archetype with Orc anchestry, to comensate magus low health. Inexorable iron is a 2 wielding weapon study. This class grant a lot of temporary hit points and things like that. The sparkling targe is a shield tank that can block magic.That's a bad build, and you should play something else. Arcane Trickster is adding nothing of value, and is a half BAB class. I played Sword Saint 12/Duelist 8 on Core+Last Azlanti, Trickster. That build was fine. It's arguably even better now that Death's Consonant is working. You can go 10/10, and really commit to INT stacking.Kensai has the advantage that INT (eventually) gives you dodge bonus, initiative, extra points in the arcane pool, crit confirmation bonus, more attacks of opportunity, more spells per day, casting defensively. Several arcana also work on int, like Arcane Accuracy, which allows you to add int as an insight bonus to attacks.
Some spell strikes with the new spells can net you well over 100-120 damage in a crit at Character lvl 7 so this is probably one of the highest damage crit builds out there. You also start out with heavy armor so thats another major plus. On the spellcasting end I would recommend Magus/Witch over Wizard any day. I dunno, I'd miss at 2 level 10 slots and 23 other slots at level 20. Likewise, going STR build eliminates more options than it opens up. You're not a Power Attacking 2-H wielder, your damage is going to come from Spellstrike.The best DEX based magus will always be starlit span imo. Since you are using a bow you wont need strength at all unless you want the extra +1/+2 of propulsive. Your positioning in the back means you wont need the str for armor. Different kinds of Magi are good (or in comparison to the other kinds "best") in different areas. All of them are viable. If you want ranged combat, be an Eldritch Archer. For melee: Vanilla Magus for highest number of spells per day and highest flexibility. Eldritch Scion for ease-of-use with spntaneous casting.

Consider a Captain America build so you can Grapple. Classes like Champion give up damage to tank effectively, and you should be willing to do that too if that's your goal. Alternately, use a 2-hander and pick up Shield and Glass Shield cantrips. Do enough damage that the enemy can't ignore you.

Alternatively Bloodrager is less complicated than the Magus classes, and does a similar sort of thing. Dex characters are a bit more tanky, Str characters are more damaging. Str characters are easier to build as they don't need a bunch of feats and specific weapons to function. Also depends what difficulty setting you're planning to play on.
DEX to Damage is very difficult for a Magus to get due to Spell Combat restrictions. The only options are Dervish Dance (2 feats) or Two-Weapon Grace (5 feats). Like everyone says, magus is mostly melee damage with self buffs, those spell pen and ele focus feats are going to waste. Use self buffs, get 4 elements on your weapon (three with arcana), and grab Elemental Barrage. That's the basic way magus works right now.
