So about a month ago, I had $10k TSLA Puts, and $140k of various stocks. TSLA went up 5%, and my puts went down 20% as is common. Because of the nature of options, they are leveraged. I did not want to sell any of the other $140k of stocks I held to re-balance into TSLA puts, so I shorted $5k of TSLA. A short is a pure linear play.

As did I. I feel bad for not being smart enough and buying calls after I sold my puts at open and instead just bought near today's top. The way it climbed looked completely linear, then flatlining as soon as their pressure died. TSLA would have to fall 20 dollars below your put strike to break even because you keep the 2k from before. Now that you have 100 shares of TSLA, you can sell calls on it, which give similar money to selling puts.
