Ryze ult can be used to gank, shove, tower dive or back door, with your ally. So, it is very problematic and I do think it should be gutted for something else that is easier to balance. Wouldn't be suprised. It the cause of most of his problems. Like kalista's oathsworn mechanic.

Current Ryze is a squishy burst mage who relies on a team frontlining for him. He's actually stronger for soloq now than he was before the 9.12 changes, but I don't enjoy his new playstyle nearly as much.This means that Ryze has a total of 80 effective AP at this point, and the jump in EQ damage at level 6 is about 18-19%. With the lower experience, Ryze is delaying this damage increase for ~3 minutes if memory serves. This is a huge negative compared to the solo lanes. Apart from that, there's also a big issue with mana.
