Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.

Hi fellas, first post here. I’ve wanted a Marlin lever gun for quite some time now. Still don’t have it though. 😐 My LGS has a Glenfield 30A on the shelf. It’s a 1968 vintage. Metal is pretty good, but clearly been used. Most of the flathead screws are somewhat boogered up, not terrible, but not like new. Action is very slick.1276 posts · Joined 2008. #9 · May 3, 2009. Hi everyone, I recently installed a Williams receiver peep on my recently refinished glenfield 30a. After installing the peep sight and included front finer optic sight, I hit the range. But I'd expect the same accuracy and reliability as a standard Marlin 336. And those can vary. Some will keep 3 shots into 1", or very close to it, at 100 yards. Some will just barely keep 3 shots in 3". When they were sold they were significantly cheaper than a 336, but today there just doesn't seem to be too much difference in value.

The front sight is not on a ramp but dovetailed into the barrel. It has an endcap instead of bands. It is fully a Marlin, just made to a slightly lower price point. $375.00 is not outrageous as a price.
