Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.

Mr Brophy's book on Marlins says that they were made from 1964 to 1970 with the half mag. The early ones were marked as the 36G and the rest as Glenfield model 30. He says that 5,930 Model 36G were produced in 1964-65. Then 77,603 Model 30's were produced until 1970. 1971 brought the 30A which had the full mag tube.The only difference in the 30AS and the 336 is the wood and the sights. The 30AS has a birch stock, carbine style front sight, and I believe a stamped sheetmeatal style rear with the sliding elevator. The 336 has black walnut for stocks, adjustable semi buck horn rear sight, and a hooded bead sight on a ramp for a front.The Glenfield 25 is from 1978 and uses the old style of magazine with the release lever built into it. The magazine clips onto a metal piece up inside the mag well. The Marlin 25N is from 1995 and uses the newer style magazine. That gun has the mag release built into the base of the mag well as part of the rifle.The Glenfield 30A was produced from around 1971/1972 to about 1981/1982 when it became the Marlin Mod 30AS. They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. It has an endcap instead of bands. It is fully a Marlin, just made to a slightly lower price point. $375.00 is not outrageous as a price.
