Let me preface by saying I have owned 12 diesels, (4) Powerstrokes, (2) Duramaxes, (5) Cummins and a Ecodiesel. I am not new to them. I struggle to get more then 15-15.5 mpg in this truck and its driving me nuts. Dash MPG's aren't even remotely close except for the 400+ mile range which is about 1 mpg high.

I drive 70miles round trip to work, non-highway, with hills through towns. I had set the trip odometer the day I bought it and it's averaging almost 17, including some mild camper towing. Tank to tank I'm seeing better than 18 with regens.The transmission will shift normally up to the gear you have selected in Manual. In other words, if in M5 it will shift normally up to 5th gear and not go into 6th. They tell us to never use 6th while towing heavy. Keep the RPMs between 1800 and 2400 and it will stay the coolest, with around 2200 being the best.Dec 31, 2023 · 2021 GMC 3500 SLE 27k miles. Feb 22, 2020. #1. Hi everyone. Just signed up to the forum. I picked up my 2020 Denali 2500 hd duramax this week and noticed a loud knocking at idle which increases in volume as the engine warms up. Went back in to the dealer before I even left the lot and saw the service advisor and the diesel tech who both said it was normal.

I haven't been here for awhile because my 2015 D'Max LML was pretty flawless. Well I now have a 2021 L5P and I absolutely love it, especially towing our 37' fifth wheel. Well, I love it all except for the amount of DEF it is using while towing. We recently completed a 2400 mile trip, of which 2000 was towing.

I would say your DIC is probably over by 1 mpg by my experiences with 23K mileson a '17 2500 LTZ. Mileage improved a little and I have never reset my 2nd mileage meter which reads 16.2 mpg for the average life of the truck with say 55% city and 35% highway and 10% towing.Jun 2, 2021 · Duramax L5P Engine Problems. While these engines are still relatively new, they seem to be extremely reliable so far with very few “common” problems that haven’t been solved or addressed. The L5P is flat out a better built motor! Go do your research! The L5P has new heads on it that flow much better and a new fuel injection system but the main engine is mainly the same. Main and oil cooling were increased to deal with the extra power. It is a great engine, most Duramax are but it is let down by choking emissions and warranty issues.Tuner in Training. Join Date. However when GM ditched the LML's piezoelectric injectors for the Denso solenoid injectors, they actually made controlling the L5P hardware with an older ECM much easier. One of the most common is the coolant tank sensor going bad. Another thing that owners have noticed is the TMAP sensor getting caked with soot and causing other issues.
