Oct 4, 2016 · I'm loading for a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08 AI. Hence my powder usage is slightly higher than standard 7mm-08 when loaded for accuracy, not max loads. (aka my most accurate loads are very near max 7mm-08 loads. Varget did ok for me. Nothing special to write home about. Decent powder, decent accuracy. Same with IMR 4350. Really do NOT like CFE223!! My wife's 7mm-08 shoots the Nosler factory 140 gr AccuBond load sub-MOA, and the hand load that DrMike developed for her rifle is the 140 gr Sierra Pro Hunter over 47.2 gr of IMR4350 and F210M primers at 2.276" coal, produces 1/2, groups. She is impatiently waiting to harvest her first animal with her rifle.

The loads I pulled out of manuals 30 years ago are gone; the most current manuals tell me that the 7×57 Mauser now lags about 200 fps behind the 7mm-08 Rem. This is based on pressures now considered safe in older actions, not on case capacity, and not on working pressure in modern actions.

In my 7mm-08, it's awesome! Never found a better combination than 7-08, 140 grain bullet and Varget (42.5 grains=2850 fps). My 7-08 Mountain Rifle shoots 140 ABs at 2730 with 43 grains of Varget. Even with the skinny barrel, it'll shoot 3 into about .75" if I let the barrel cool between shots.
