Hundred times more durable engine than any european engine for starters. And not so hard to work on. And really nice in power and smoothness. My northstar (2001 Deville) has got about 185tml in the odometer now and not having issues other than minor oil leaks. If it blows the head bolts or headgaskets I would say they had a good run and fix it.
Hey gang, A fella at work who knows a lot about cars & engines told me a problem with some of the Northstar 4.6 V8's. He claims that the earlier engine block castings were prone to fail due to porasity in the casting. He claimed that GM's "fix" was to offer coolant "pucks" to add to your coolant to stop erosion of the engine block.
