Apparently GM has a program in place for the side detection modules. The special service bulletin is #N172097060 . If your Impala has less than 80K on the clock you should be good to go. On April 1st GM has a special coverage adjustment, aka extended the warranty, on the side detection modules for 2014 and 2015 Impalas for 6 years or 80,000 miles regardless of ownership. The special coverage bulliten is #N172097060 .The root issue is that water and debris from the rear tires spray up inside the rear bumper and penetrate the 2 modules causing this issue. THe fix, aside from replacement and programming is a set of splash guards on the rear to stop the water from getting in there. After some research and follow up with my dealership, I have learned that the failure of the "side detection system" is widespread problem with GM vehicles. So much so that they have provided a bulletin extending warranty coverage on the chevy cruise, chevy impala, and GMC acadia with the same exact issue.

I just got this vehicle 7/23/22, problem began 3/8/2023. 65418 mileage. They never even mentioned this SCA. I was just told the warranty I purchased with the vehicle doesn't cover what is called corrosion or water damage, and they said that is what I have.
